I like coffee
Good coffee. Espresso. Is that obvious? I cap it to one or two per day, no instant except in dire emergencies. No dairy for this little silver duck (that’s a whole other series of posts, silver ducks and dairy!) so when it comes to cappuccino and latte, it’s nut, soy or coconut milk for me. Just coz I knew you were itching to ask, my favourite milk is my own homemade cashew-coconut milk, which is now titled ‘Cocoshew’, as that’s what my partner called it the first time he tasted it. He loves it by the way, though he prefers ‘the milk of the udder’ (eeewww). He and I also love a nice cup of tea. He was born in England and I just like tea. Between us , we have a range of tea varieties that would make a royal proud. Basically, hot beverages feature heavily in our daily lives.
Chilling out with coffee or a nice cup of tea while reading and enjoying the view (water, trees, garden…) is cheap therapy as far as I’m concerned. Equally therapeutic is a cuppa combined with good company and conversation. And cake. Don’t forget cake. Cuppas, companionship, conversation and culinary concoctions of some kind (alliteration’s kinda cool isn’t it?)
My hope is that you will find posts here that will stimulate thought and conversation for you and those with whom you eat, drink and chat. I plan to write about a whole bunch of things, from being a parent to education to current events, controversies and beyond. It’ll range from frivolous and shallow to deep and meaningful (“D&M” as we say around here, not to be confused with S&M!) I’m working to overcome my issue with perfectionism that often ends up leading me to procrastination, so I aim to get my ideas written here, focusing on getting my ideas written without getting too hung up on technical detail and and ‘perfect’ prose. I can write polished, technically correct academic text, as evidenced by the First Class Honours thesis I produced in my final year of university, but that’s just not how I converse with others. I personally don’t find that style of writing very accessible (does anyone?) So by all means let me know if you notice glaring errors or omissions, but otherwise hopefully you’ll just go with it.
The aforementioned research thesis was qualitative, a critical ethnography (yeah, sorry, maybe I’ll do another post explaining what that is, if anyone is actually interested. I didn’t know what it was til I did my research unit either). Basically it means that I was interested in delving into other people’s experiences, hearing their perspectives and comparing them. And I still am. I believe that if we all actually speak and listen with an ear to truly hear the other perspective, the world would be a lot more fruitful. In other words, as the tagline says, are you thinking what I’m thinking? Or do you have an entirely different perspective?
Anyway I hope you like it, or at least find it interesting, and throw in a comment and subscribe if you feel so inclined. I’d love to hear from fellow critical thinkers.
